Camping in Dorset

A group of 9 of us left the London area on Friday evening headed for a camping weekend in Dorset staying at Durdle Door Holiday Park. Ellie, Lucy, Martina and I would stay in my motorhome whilst Jo, Elizabeth, May, Tracey and Leo had booked tent pitches.

By the time we had all arrived, had a drink and discussed the plans for the weekend it was past midnight and time to get some sleep. The plan Saturday was for Leo, Elizabeth, May and Tracey to go sea kayaking with Jurassic Kayak Tours which would start at 1pm and leave from Lulworth Cove. The rest of us decided to delay our walk until the afternoon and we all headed to Lulworth Cove together. The walk was very leisurely and included a particularly long stop at the beach at Durdle Door where we dozed in the sun and took photos.

Eventually those kayaking arrived at the beach and when they began their kayak journey back to Lulworth Cove us walkers continued along the South West Coastal Path. There was at least one steep climb in front of us which was made worth it for the views it offered us looking at towards Durdle Door.

Not long after we headed inland and took a flatter route back to the campsite. After a shower the walkers decided to eat at the campsite bar. The kayakers took longer to return, stopping at the Castle Inn. We had decided to take part in the quiz that started at 8:30pm and whilst we did not win we did not disgrace ourselves either.

On Sunday we walked the coastal path in the other direction, some stopping at Lulworth Cove to chill out and read the papers, some of us continuing on for a couple of miles. We met again in Lulworth Cove before taking a route back to the campsite via The Castle Inn for a drink and in some cases something to eat. The final stretch back to the campsite passed some pretty cottages that were worthy of a photo.

The weekend had flown by and it was time to say goodbye and make our way back to London.
